Letter from Thomas Bland [to Alexander Hume-Campbell, 1st Baron Hume of Berwick]. Sent from Berkhamsted. Mr & Mrs Smyth cannot visit till some time in August, so the writer is able to visit Southill and proposes Thursday 20th.

Now going to take care of Mr Keller’s church at Kings Langley, and must do the same next Sunday, and must attend a justice meeting on Tuesday Sennight. These circumstances hinder the writer from visiting sooner. Gives proposed travel details, by horse and post chaise. The Lord Chancellor [Edward Thurlow, 1st Baron Thurlow] has lately given away some livings in Essex, though Twinstead is still undisposed of, so Charles Smyth is not without hope.
