- Scope and ContentHas had workmen about for some time: the back part of the house has been stripped and new tiled and the stable repaired and improved. When at Colchester hopes to have the honour of now and then sending his Lordship a barrel of oysters. Wrote to Mr Butler three weeks ago, but has heard nothing. Mentioned his Lordship’s enquiries about Phillis Arnold. Comments about his Lordship parting with a farm. Breakfasted yesterday at Hempstead. Mention of Mr Fraser. ‘I thought our Ball a very good and genteel one, thought I have known it rather more numerous. Sorry to hear the account of Lord Breadalbane [John Campbell, 3rd Earl of Breadalbane and Holland]; he is 85 and must soon expect to be gathered to his Fathers at Finlarig [burial place of the Earls of Breadalbane]. Had changed lodgings at Colchester so hopes that he will have less noise this winter. Supposes there will be some military, but not quite so troublesome. Reference to military personnel. Reference to his Lordship having toothache.
