  • Scope and Content
Journey to London, which should have been this month, has been put off till Easter week; Charlotte is unable to put on a shoe from an accident at a Ball when an Officer trod on her foot. She has been confined for the last ten days. The writer hopes to slip out of town to visit his Lordship at Wrest. Will return to Berkhamsted at the beginning of May, and will then be able to visit his Lordship at Wrest. His Lordship enquired what sort of cows Mr Butler prefers: Butler keeps no cows himself as his finances are insufficient – the writer hears that both his Essex Livings are under sequestration. Makes further comments about Butler. Visited Stebbing in delightful weather. The present value of the Living is greatly below par, but the writer doubts much the practicability of raising it. Has given orders for laying out over £20 in repairs to make it comfortable to the curate, who has a wife and children.
