- Scope and Content‘Charles Smyth … is a sufficient distinction when you apply for the Rectory at West Tilbury. It will be time enough to add M.A. to the end of his name before the presentation is made out for him.’ Mention of supplying his Lordship with a barrel of oysters – Mr Smyth is acquainted with the principal oyster dredger on Mersey Island. Writer has not yet had the opportunity of enquiring into the value of the Essex estate. There is an immense quantity of timber woods but they are pretty well thinned of the largest oaks. Glad to hear the Bishop of St. Davids is in Town, as the writer wants to consult him about his Brecknock Prebend. The lessee owes 3 years rent, and the writer can get neither money nor answer. Wishes to know what measures can be taken against a Welsh squire at such a distance. Comments about holding 2 Livings without a dispensation. Writer has not yet received presentation to Stebbing. Has already agreed with a curate for that church
