Writer has heard that the Living of Great Horkesley, adjoining the writer’s at Mile End and in the patronage of Lord Hardwicke and Lady Grey, is likely soon to become vacant; the present incumbent Dr. [John] Cock being in a declining state of health. The writer would consider it a great favour if this Living could be procured for a young clergyman ‘who I expect to call my son in law as soon as a proper provision in life can be secured for him.’ The clergyman is Mr Smyth, who has a very small living and a fellowship of a college in Oxford, though the fellowship must be given up on his marriage.
