[Typed transcript available.] The writer has had a meeting with the Chancellor, who has been unable to respond to Lady Lucas’ letter due to the gout, which at present incapacitates him from writing.

Relates to the possibility of the title Duke of Kent being conferred on Prince Ernest Augustus. ‘As the point is absolutely settled, which he said it had been for some time, and is one from which, under all the circumstances, the King could hardly have been desired or expected to depart.’
