A "comrade" whom he met on the road near Baldock, and was travelling with to Scotland, stopped him opposite the gates of a house near Girtford Bridge, took his stick and went into the house, coming back with a great coat, a gun and a bundle. His "comrade" told them afterwards that they were his property, and he believed him.
