'The account is certainly not a good one & it is as you say a most difficult question & of course most serious to us with regard to the extreme smallness of the payments, which seem to get less & less but at the same time I very much dislike the idea of putting in a distress especially with Mrs Millard in such a bad state of health. I therefore think under the circumstances I must let another year pass (foolish though it may be) without doing anything & trust that now Mr Millard has got this extra appointment he may be able to do better & pay more in the future.
