- TitleMillard to Eve. Sorry not at home when Eve called, 'also that you should think me neglectful in doing the repairs as I employed a carpenter who repaired all the gates and fences on the Home Farm in March except the fence against the rick yard. I also employed a bricklayer who repaired all the buildings except the brew house roof, which I left as I had then no wood suitable. I am also very sorry to have displeased you in cutting the tops off the elm trees but I was in constant dread of them falling on the house and buildings every high wind we had and I thought they would make some boards for repairing the yard at Salford & to save further expense I have had them sawn for that purpose and intend putting them up as soon as I can get a carpenter. I have always endeavoured to carry out your wishes to the best of my ability with regard to keeping the farm and buildings in proper order and I am very sorry if I have done wrong.'
