- Admin/biog historyDocuments relating to Cardington, Cotton End, deposited by Mr W S Keep, 8 Bell Lane, Cotton End, 4 February 1957
- Note: These documents have a connection with early Nonconformity, according to the pamphlet 247/12 Thomas Thorowgood's house in Cotton End was used for meetings for worship, and on the information of John Pryor's wife Thorowgood, who was a weaver, was fined £19, and he left the district. Both Pryor and "Turgood" appear on the 1671 Hearth Tax returns for the district. George Thorowgood may also be a relation of Thomas. The reference to "Mr Cokayn" is also of interest, since in 1672 a licence was granted to John Whitman, and elder of the Bedford Church, to preach at George Cokayn's house at Cotton End. George Cokayn was minister, first of Soper Lane, and later in Red Cross Street, London; and was a friend fof Bunyan (see Brown, Bunyan, eg p.366).
