  • Scope and Content
Has been reading Bowdler's publication. Mention of family members using Lady de Grey's box at the theatre. Reference to Mrs Catherine Yorke's exertions: 'the future happiness of her husband and children depend so much upon the continuance of these good habits that I shall be quite anxious JCH [Jacqueline Comtesse de Hompesch] should send me reports how the spirit of the new system is kept up.' Glad to hear Lord Grantham means to send his boy [Frederick William Robinson] to Harrow next summer. The writer is partial to Harrow school, and if the choice had been left to her, would have sent Joseph Yorke there. Writer thinks Plumptre is in an infirm state, though he goes through his duties as usual, and is an excellent parish priest. His sister reports he complains of want of strength, is often nervous and does not sleep well. His second sister who always lies on a couch is now advised to lay for some weeks upon a frame used for spine complaints, although it is now proved that the disorder is in her hip.
