- TitleLetter from Mary Yorke to Lady de Grey, sent from Great Malvern. Death of Mrs Joseph Carew [Caroline, nee Ellis].
- Date free text21 Sep 1819
- Production dateFrom: 1819 To: 1819
- Scope and Content'I know not whether Mr P Carew has written yo your ladyship or any of the family - what effect this will have on his unworthy son? and whether he will marry the woman he has so long lived with, time must show but I am not laywer enough to know whether, if he should have no son, his having cut off the entail will ultimately prevent his son by Miss Lyttleton inheriting the estate? I am told it possibly might not extend any further than to Joseph C's descendant in the right line'. [Note: This seems to relate to inheritance: Joseph and Caroline had a daughter, but no son. Joseph was the only surviving son of Reginald Pole Carew and his first wife Jemima, nee Yorke, but Reginald had 2 sons (and 3 daughters) from his second marriage to Caroline Anne Lyttleton. In 1825, Joseph married Sasanna Frances Cadogan, nee Thomsett, whose husband Henry died in 1824]. 'All that can be said for Captain ____ [name not given] who the poor deluded woman [presumably Caroline Carew] went off with is that he showed her every attention through her illness and acquainted her parents with her state as soon as he was aware of the danger of it.' Mr Broome has returned to Forthampton, but is very faint and weak and has no appetite, his cough and expectoration very troublesome. Mary Anne [Yorke] is improved in health and vivacity since she has been obliged to early hours, air and exercise
