- Scope and ContentVisit from Miss Wyndham from Norfolk, who is staying with Mrs Parsons. She remarked how for the whole of her journey the corn fields seemed very empty of labourers. The farmers blame the burden of the poor rates which obliges them only to employ their own labourers and no more. Miss Wyndam spoke highly of the gas lights in the playhouse, but understood that some alteration was to take place as the heat had been complianed of. Reads that St.James Square is to be illuminated with gas lights. Mr James Cocks informed the writer that Sir William Rowley had fitted up the house at Horksley Park for Admiral Rowley's return home, but he died on the voyage. Hutchinson informs the writer with no small pleasure that the culprit on her manor is liable to be transported. Forthampton friends much pleased with the excursion to Gloucester, the new room being a very nice one for music and dancing. Mary Ann had sea captain John Buckle for her partner. Mentions of the writer's agent, Philpotts, and his opinion of a sermon. Mention of small and great tithes.
