- Scope and ContentThe writer has not mentioned the subjest to anyone other than Lady de Grey. Was obliged to stop at Northleach while the coach was repaired and visited Widow Williamson (the late vicar's wife), who informed the writer that Mr [John Kempthorne] was putting the vicarage in complete repair, but this was not to be at his own expense. He has a curacy in the town of Gloucester, but lives cheifly in a good house at with his pupils. 'My neighbour at Eastnor Castle [John Somers Cocks].....rode over to make me a visit having been preceeded by a note and venison on Sunday last. He left me with the intention of bringing his wife and daughter to dine with me on Saturday next - I hope this is a preface to his being kind to his [half] sister and my daughter [i.e.the widowed Anna Maria Yorke] and settling some old affairs.'
