- TitleLetter from Mary Yorke to Lady Lucas, sent from Forthampton Court. Thanks for sending Brussels sprouts seeds, which are growing nicely. Writer fears she will forget to pay Lady Lucas for them, and had better consider them a present.
- Date free text5 May 1812
- Production dateFrom: 1812 To: 1812
- Scope and ContentReference to a scarcity of corn and a subscription raised in the parish to provide the poor with rice at half price. Mention of the next 'Drawing Room' where Lady Eliot is to present Mrs Eliot and her protege little Letty [Beauchamp?]. Mrs [Agneta] Yorke intends to visit the writer for a fortnight before the hot weather sets in; the writer is also to meet her in Malvern in the autumn. Son Joseph has been indulged with 2 months additional holiday and is arriving next week with his family. Agneta cannot hear without an ear trumpet and is not able to walk out; a country life is very dull for her when she is tired of reading, so she will enjoy the presnece of Joseph and his family. She will miss her morning companion Letty [Beauchamp-Proctor]; the writer is trying to train granddaughter Mary in her place, but she is only 9 years old and quite shy. Unlucky that the writer will not see Lady Hardwicke at Malvern. Reference to a drama called Marmion [Presumably based on Marmion: A Tale of Flodden Field by Walter Scott]. Also mention of 'Christina the Maid of the South Seas' a poem by Mary Russell Mitford. Mention of Mr Cambridge requesting details of Mrs Dowdeswell's subscription.
