- Scope and ContentWriter is going to Malvern 1st or 2nd October, and will take lodgings from the beginning of that week. Mr & Mrs Clive recommend the house they were in. At Oxford [en route to Forthampton], the writer now stays at the Roe Buck Inn there, kept by Cook, an old servant of Philip Yorke, Ist Earl Hardwicke. He is rejoiced to see any member of the family. The next stop is Whitney, where there is the inn called Staples Hall kept by Coburn. From Whitney to Northleach [Kings Head] , then Cheltenham, where the writer usually stays at The Plough. In Tewkesbury the Swan Inn. From Tewkesbury the best way would be to take the horses to Forthampton Court where the writer would send a carriage to meet Lady Lucas at the waterside. If Lady Lucas does not wish to cross the river, she would have to go round by Gloucester, which would add about seven miles to the journey. Describes the stages of an alternative route from Oxford, through Stow on the Wold, with names of inns. Writer has written to Mlle. Hompesch to tell her that there is no room to accommodate her. Agneat Yorke has returned to Bath.
