'Poor Dr Waddington was in such a flutter when he first told us of the story, that I see by this paper he had mistaken the name and possibly the family - but I do not like to speak on the subject to him.' On the death of Charles Cole, the Chapter of Ely offered the Bishop the gift known as Steward of the Courts for son James Yorke, he being a barrister at law, which qualified him for the position. The Bishop is making a gift to the dean & chapter of a rostrum for the church - it is to be made in London. Lord Hardwicke has given Reginald Cocks (Lord Somer's son) a newly created position of £700 per annum called second assistant to the army agent. *Seperate paper 'Barnby Moor. Dec 3rd 1804. I hereby recall in the most solemn manner, the epithets of reproach and the unfounded stigmas which I have at different periods since the beginning of October last cast upon the character of Capt. Waddington, contained as well in letters to himself as others; and declare that his conduct during our meeting this day has been in every respect that of a man of courage and honour. Capt. Waddington himself consenting to recall the harsh expressions he used in consequence of me of my letters to him. Signed John Lowther Johnstone and H S Waddington.'
