  • Title
Letter from Mary Yorke to Lady Lucas, sent from Ely. Necessity to attend to the poor; should the scarcity of corn continue until the next harvest the situation in England will be like that of France in 1789 and 1790. Writer will recommend the methods adopted by Lord Hardwicke at Wimpole and neighbouring parishes. The men's wages vary with the seasons, if they can find work. The parish officers have therefore doubled the price of spinning to the women as being a more certain relief.
