  • Title
Mr Osborn is a very respectable and inoffensive person, formerly in business at Woburn and now living at Brickhill. No objection to the Duke granting the privilege he asks for. Mr Hacker thinks it would be advisable to ask Mr [William] Cubitt's opinion on the best Engineer if they want to apply Steam power to sawing, as he has recently had some new machinery erected at Grays Inn Lane. Cubitt's sawing is mainly foreign timbers and deals, whereas "our sawing is as you know both for English timber (Oak elm etc) and foreign - & this may make some difference". "If Mr Cubitt can let us see his Machinery & spare us a few minutes' conversation, we should then have a better idea of our wants and how to go to work".
