Reference to peace – hopes it is honourable and lasting. Writer gives her own opinions on political and current affairs. Mention of the travels of Lady Lucas’ nephew [Thomas Robinson, 3rd Baron Grantham]; worries about him visiting Paris. Mention of Anne [daughter?] sitting next to a Dr. Duignan at dinner; he informed her he was the only man in Ireland who could grant a licence. Reference to Catholics and Protestants dining together without any attention in former times. Mention of the Duke of Leinster and Charles Fox. Colonel Littlehales accompanies Lord Cornwallis to Paris; he has promised to keep a common place book of the smaller events of the day. There is to be an annual procession on the 4th November. ‘We do not talk of going to live in Dublin till after Christmas, probably far on in January….this place is not uncomfortable though rather too small for our family and our numerous attendants – the state of the Lord Lieutenant demanding that he should have a very great retinue.’ Reference to dinners which are more ‘conversable’ than would be a similar party in London. ‘Lord Royston’s departure was really a lucky stroke to Lord Hardwicke; I believe he wished the Phoenix Park in the fire and Wimpole to arise from its ashes. ‘ Sorry to hear such an indifferent account of poor Mrs [Jemima] Carew [following the death of her father, John Yorke]. PS The guns are now firing for the taking of Alexandria.
