  • Scope and Content
Has visited Sir Charles and Lady Cotton at Madingley, where they now reside. Will be pleased to welcome Lady Lucas whenever it is convenient for her to visit. The writer will be here [Wimpole?] for some time, but cannot say the same for Lord Hardwicke; he is to relieve his brother on the 11th at Colchester, where the regiment is to be stationed for the winter. Lord Hardwicke and Charles will probably divide the duty between them as Sir Edward Nightingale has been ill and requires nursing at home. Today Lord Hardwicke is with the regiment at Cambridge; they marched from Norman Cross last Monday. Cannot be sure of Lord Hardwicke’s company, but if Lady Lucas has no objection to female company ‘my misses and myself will certainly be happy to see you – the young gentleman of three months and a fortnight, though possessed of all the qualifications of his age, will scarce form an exception to this select party of females [reference to son Charles James Yorke, born July 1797]. Regretted losing Mlle. Hompesche [Jacueline Charlotte Comtesse De Hompesche] so soon. Mention of the present political situation. There is a Monsieur Mickell here, who teaches geography and grammar.
