  • Scope and Content
Has just learnt that Lord Amherst means to review Warley Camp on Friday and Danbury on Saturday. It is very short notice, but if Lady Amabel wishes to attend, the writer will offer such accommodation as is in her power. ‘You must come armed with fortitude to stand the noise of the morning gun.’ Also mentions attacks of wasps and earwigs. ‘If you can stand all these enemies, you need not doubt of a very sincere welcome…’ Mention of the death of [Maximilien] Robespierre. The Adjutant of the Leicester received a bullet in his throat a few days ago while the men were firing with powder – ‘it is not yet ascertained from whom it came or if from malice or accident.’
