  • Scope and Content
The ceremony took place at St. George Hanover Square, and was conducted by Turner, the dean of Norwich. It was attended by Lord Dover, Lord Eliot [Edward Craggs-Eliot, 1st Baron Eliot of Saint Germans], Lady Beauchamp and her son, Mr & Mrs C Yorke, Miss Manningham as bridesmaid and the writer with Lord Hardwicke. Mr Yorke was prevented from attending by a severe cold. Mentions that Agneta Yorke was extremely agitated, but kept up much better during the whole of the day than the writer had expected from her state of health and spirits. ‘The bride…looked and behaved charmingly on the whole, though her spirits seemed totally to forsake her when she first viewed the alter – she soon however rallied again and supported herself extremely well during the rest of the short stay – as they only returned for half an hour to Cavendish Street..’ ‘Mrs Yorke [Agneta] accompanies us tomorrow to Wimpole and the new married pair will follow us on Monday.’ Hopes Mr C Yorke will also join the family party. Mr and Mrs Eliot have taken a house on Gower Street for six months till they can find something to suit them better. Mr C Yorke has not yet fixed his residence. ‘I am happy to add that Lord Eliot’s whole behaviour of late Has been kind and liberal to the greatest degree.’
