  • Scope and Content
A typewritten letter on St Andrew's parish church headed paper from Leslie Sturman, Rector of St. Andrew's, to Honora Grimmer: "Dear Miss Grimmer, Many thanks for your letter about the District Visitors and your desire to give up the job of Secretary. I sympathise with that very much and I would be the first to recognise the value of the work you have been doing over the past thirteen years. It has been invaluable to the church in Ampthill. Your leadership has always been accepted and acceptable and I know the work has give you much pleasure. My difficulty is to find a successor. I had a word with Doris Hill who I thought might be a worthy successor but she feels not able to undertake it at this stage. I wonder if you might give me some suggested names of ladies I might approach. This would be very helpful and narrow the field somewhat. I visualise someone who knows Ampthill and would be acceptable to all the others involved. I am delighted to hear you are moving nearer the church which will get over the distance factor. If we are unable to get an immediate appointment could you please as you suggest carry on for a month or two until we do. Your sincerely,"
