  • Scope and Content
A handwritten letter from Fred Wheeler at Claridges Lane, Ampthill to Honora and Lily Grimmer: "I must first thank you for kind gift which you have given me in the years past as well. You have both been very kind and thank. Now I must thank you for your lovely letter. It meant a lot to me and thanks again. Now my wife Nelly passed away in a nice way at the Hospital. My daugther Sybil was with her to the last but could not get back to Ampthill. No buses, she had to spend that night at the Swan. I could not go but the next day my son-in-law drove me to the chapel of rest and she looked lovely and I am sure she was prepared for Heaven. She was a good wife, good mother and good grandmother. We shall feel her loss. I have wonderful neighbours, they have been so nice and helpful. I am not too good at the moment. Doctor's given me antibiotics. Now, do hope that you will both take care, are well and mind if you time to go out ..... good health. Yours your old gardener, Fred"
