- Scope and ContentA handwritten letter from Fred Wheeler at Ringhorn, Claridges Lane, Ampthill to Honora and Lily Grimmer: "Dear Miss, This note is to thank you both for your kind gift to me again. We are ever so grateful to you when I visited to you away back in the summer. I thought then how nice it would have been if I could come and work the garden. How nice it would have been to combine the cemetery graves with it so near but it was wishful thinking. I am not really safe now but my wife and I think we have a lot to be thankful for we have had a good life. Next year will be our 60th year we have been together so we have a lot to thank God for. Sometimes I think back whe I was young and went to our Church of England School in Bedford Street. How nice it was .... at Christmas time given lessons on the birth of Christ and the Rector Nichol would come along and talk to us and then after Christmas we all went to the Park House by the kindness of Lady Amptill for the Christmas tree each one of us had two presents. It was lovely. To me I think the present day Christmas could do with a little Victorian mixed with that ...... Now Miss you will be tired of my thoughts of the past. I am sorry I don't help you but if ever I could make a kind word for a friend or the like you have only to recommend me and above all things we wish you good health for the coming year and we thank you ever so much. Yours truly, your old gardener and his wife"
