Lord Hardwicke will remain in Bath until the return of Lady Hardwicke, expected at the end of the month. The little Alexander has been unwell with a bowel compliant, but is now recovered. 'He is an amusing clever child, but fear of a delicate frame.' General family news. Reference to Lady Hardwicke going in Paris and the birth of her granddaughter [Charlotte Stuart, daughter of Elizabeth Margaret Stuart, nee Yorke]. 'I only hope that some severe examples may be made of those committed for treason and sedition - but the trials are delayed so long that I fear nothing to the purpose wil be done and the alarm end in transportation, imprisionment for a few months and a fine...' Mention of trips to theatre, and seeing Howard Payne, a youth from the American theatres, calling himself the American Roscius, who is shortly to appear at Covent Garden.
