Reference to Lady Grantham's confinement [Annabelle Elizabeth Robinson, born 11 Oct 1816, died 13 Sep 1827]. Wishes that it had been a boy 'boys are always welcome - but especially where ancient families and titles are concerned..' 'Our Ambassadoress is in a way to make me a great grandmother to a French man or woman..' [Reference to pregnancy of Elizabeth Margaret Stuart, nee Yorke, daughter of Philip Yorke, 3rd Duke of Hardwicke, stepson of writer. She married Charles Stuart 1st Baron Stuart de Rothesay. Her daughter, Charlotte Stuart, was born 1817 in Paris]. Mention of Lady Sarah having an accident. Also mentions Lady Anne Bernard, who has had a narrow escape; writer thinks it unlikely that, at her age, she will fully recover from such a violent attack. General family news. Grandson [Charles Philip Yorke] is going out to Halifax [Nova Scotia] with David Milne, the writer assumes this will be for 3 years. [David Mile, Royal Navy officer, was appointed to command the North American Station, living in Halifax, Nova Scotia in May 1816]. Thanks for offer of venison and game. Reference to shooting game 'Sir Joseph [son] is more expert at shooting French men than birds; I believe he likes it better - as I should do.' Hears from niece Laetitia that Mrs P Yorke, though not quite free from complaint, if a great deal better. Her eldest brother, William [Beauchamp-Proctor] has taken orders and got the curacy (with the parsonage house) of Madresfield [near Malvern, Worcestershire]. [See L30/11/323/124 and 126].
