  • Scope and Content
Delighted with the improvements Lord Eliot has made and is making 'to a naturally fine place - he has a taste for such amusements and he spares no expense.' Caroline was very ill the week before the writer left, but recovering fast. Mr Pole Carew has also much improved his place 'the house is to my thinking a very ugly dismal one, and requires a great deal to be done to it to make it comfortable and cheerful...' Reference to current affairs with general comments and opinions. Would not be surprised to hear that Mr Robinson either has or designs to take flight to Spain. The Hardwickes are leaving Wimpole to attend Lady Pollington during her approaching confinement [daughter Ann, married to John Savile, 3rd Earl of Mexborough of Lifford]. Glad to find that Mrs James Yorke has borne her loss with so much firmness and composure [death of her husband, James Yorke, bishop of Ely].
