- Scope and ContentServants - Lady Lucas has dispensed with her housekeeper, but Mrs Lyfford has found another position. Perhaps if it does not suit, she will go to Lady Lucas. General comments regarding domestic staff. 'I really grieve that Madame of Gordon could not accomplish the plan she was said to have laid for divorcing the great Consul from his present Consuless and marrying him herself, because I think they would suit ine another exactly- equally ambitious, violent in their tempers and most wonderfully fortunate in all their enterprises and designs.' [Believed to refer to Jane Gordon, wife of Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon]. Elizabeth Yorke [wife of son Joseph] is nearly recovered from the accident. Little Henry has been drooping very much since his weening, but is now doing better. Reference to son Charles being qualified for the head of the Admiralty Board, but little liklihood of him being placed there. Believes Lord Vincent [First Lord of the Admiralty] almost incapable of business and a change in that department is likely. Writer considers there has been a falling of in Pitt's conduct. Hopes to visit Wrest in July or August.
