- Scope and ContentWriter has been confined by 'an ugly feverish complaint.' Believes Captain Yorke is with the Channel fleet in Torbay; when he comes into port again he is to have a new ship, [HMS Jason] now being built at Burlesdon and to be launched this month. This will bring him from Plymouth to Portsmouth for the fitting out of the ship. He may get some leave of absence during the fitting out to introduce his wife to the family circle in London. Writer plans to stay at Bath or Bristol and return to her own house in June. Asks how Lady Grantham came to scald her leg. Lord Hardwicke is at Liverpool, awaiting the arrival of his regiment as a gale dispersed the transport; one ship has not been heard of. Lord Hardwicke and his son Viscount Royston who went with him 'got a bad overturn on the road' but thought bruised were not materially hurt.
