- Scope and ContentReference to a storm which has uprooted trees; the stables are almost unroofed; the lead blown from two sides of the house and several casements blown in. Lady Mary escaped harm by being out of Town before the storm which brought a stack of chimneys falling through to her room. 'Caroline is again laid up with terrible chilled blains, and will i suppose continue as usual a cripple all the winter.' 'The accounts from the polite world are really terrible. There seems to be an epidemical distemper broke out amount the fine ladies, and one does not know when and where it will stop.'
