  • Scope and Content
Welcomes Amabel on her return to England. Mention of Lady Beauchamp, whose spirits and ill health would not permit her to do more than reflect on her sad situation. [Sister of the writer] Hopes Amabel did not dance too much at Lincoln, and was not alarmed by the sight of the gentleman who is said to amuse himself with looking over the tower of the cathedral. Reference to Lord Polwarth's dogs. When Wrest is finished, the writer hopes Lord Polwarth will be tempted to spend more time among his English friends. Mention of accompanying Lady Polwarth to market when she is disposed to exhibit her person there...'I think it will afford as much diversion to us as a maskerade.' The writer is ready to embrace the invitation to Marchmont House 'if the Knight you have pitched on for my companion will accompany me, it is too long a journey for a woman to take be herself.'
