- Production dateFrom: 1821 To: 1821
- Scope and ContentIncludes copy of part of a letter received from Mr Wiggins, dated 17 June Reference to the intention of the corporation of Colchester to appropriate Mile End Heath, over which some of Countess de Grey's tenants have common rights. Another of Buckland's brothers has died, so that all the life leases of that family in Crudwell depend on the single life of John Buckland.; one piece of land of about 14 acres has fallen out of lease and may now be let from year to year at a rack rent. Proposed that Buckland shall continue the tenant of it. Considers the present value to be about £15 7s 8d. The brother of Elizabeth Gillman has received her from the deaf and dumb asylum; he desired to express the grateful acknowledgements of his family for Countess de Grey's kindness to her. Copy of letter from Wiggins: Has got together £1,000 which will be paid in to Countess de Grey's bank account. Sadler has paid only £50 towards his arrears of £120, and declares his inability to pay more until after harvest. Youngman cannot pay any more until the growing crop is got in. It is useless distraining at this moment when there is scarcely anything on the premises but growing crops and farming implements. Edward Clay of the Park can pay only £50 till harvest. Hopes that the allowances given have had the desired effect and that arrears will be paid by Michaelmas.
