    'Madam, The transaction between Mr Pitt and Lord George H Cavendish which has been so long protracted is now drawing to a conclusion and an appointment has been this day made for a meeting tomorrow when a large sum in cash will be paid t Mr Pitt. He has not yet prepared the conveyance of his Crudwell purchase but in compliance with his promise he will pay the remainder of his purchase money for that estate reserving perhaps two thousand pounds until the deeds shall be execured. Supposing the business to proceed in this manner I shall request £401 16s 10d for the interest due tomorrow to be paid to your ladyship's account at Messrs Hoares; and I shall then desire the sum which may be paid on account of the principla to be disposed of as follows: To the Duke of Devonshire upon which the security will be delivered up: £6,000 To Messrs Hoares to be laid out in Exchequer Bills to answer Mr Williamson's estate £3,300 To remain in cash in the joint names of Lady Lucas, Lady Grantham and Lord Grantham £1,700 To be laid out in the 3% consols in the same names £4,500 Total: £15,500 There will then remain payable by Mr Pitt on the execution of the conveyance £1,998 Balance now due £17,498. All the sums except the £6,000 will be paid to Messrs Hoare's by Mr Pitt in the three names. As your Ladyship had mentioned that £1,700 (which with the £3,300 for Mr Williamson makes ye £5,000 expected) would be wanted for present purposes, it will remain in cash. As to the rest I have presumed that it should be laid out at once to prevent loss of interest. I have the honour to remain Madam, your Ladyship's most obliged and faithful humble servant, Charles H Ware. P.S. I have received another letter from Mr. Williamson who will not want any part of his money before January.' On a separate sheet:- 'Half a years interest on £6,000 to the 28th November 1812: £150 Deduct for 7 days, the principal having been paid 21st Novemver: £5 15s Balance: £144 5s [Less] Property tax £14 8s 6d [Balance] £129 16s 6d.'
