- Scope and ContentMr Hawkins is renewing his application for Greenstead Hale, following the death of young Charles Clay. Reports Firmin's answer to enquiries respecting the Clays, viz: Old Charles Clay has still three sons, John, settled at Dillbridge, Samuel who was to go to Shenfield in the place of Charles, and Edward who would like to have either Greenstead or Shenfield. All are respecable young men. Poor old Clay and his wife are sadly shocked at their loss and Charles' widow is almost distracted. The writer has informed Firmin that Lady Lucas has no objection to Samuel Clay going to Greenstead Hall and John going to Shenfield, but what is intended with Dillbridge?
