  • Scope and Content
Reference to the parish living at Leire; the present value is only £176 2s, but the greater part arises from the glebe land and at the death of the present incumbent when the leases will expire the writer believes it will be improved. There is also a new built parsonage house. The living at Crudwell is about £600 per year; but it is not to be expected that the College [Christ Church College, Oxford] will take the value of their great tithes of Flitton and Silsoe in preferrment, for the income of the tithes is probably destined to the expenses of the foundation; but they would probably take land in a situation not so near the family residence and a proposition might be made giving them the option of several places. Mr Leader as the largest purchaser is entitled to hold the title deeds which comprise all Mr Lewis' estates at Putney, and therefore a covenant for the production of them is required from him. Firmin will probably pay for the cottages and Mile End out of the rents; the writer has not yeat heard the price or time of payment. Does not expect the mortgage to be completed much before Christmas. The £6,000 is part only of a larger sum and there is considerable business to be done relating to the other part of the money. Pleased to hear that L Harrison has commenced the timber survey.
