- Scope and ContentWriter sends Property Tax papers for Bedfordshire and Putney which require signature. Also encloses Lady Grantham's for her signature. Has met with Rev. Mr. Dodd regarding the exchange he hopes to make of part of the Fordham Glebe for about 4 acres of Lady Lucas' land nearer the church, on which he wishes to build a parsonage house. The writer explained the difficulty with the entail which requires that a Recovery should be suffered to effectuate the purpose, and that the expense would be considerable, possibly between £30 and £40, and could not be conveniently done before Hilary Term. Rev. Mr. Dodd thinks it may be better for him to incur the expense than forego his object. The sale of the Wiltshire estates would require a similar Recovery to be made.
