- Scope and ContentA handwritten letter from Hannah Austin in Midhurst, Sussex to Albert Grimmer in Ampthill dated 13th November 1939: "Dear Mr Grimmer, Thanks for yours safely received. I expect this terrible War does dissarrange things for you. We can only go on hoping it won't last long. Will it affect your daughters - I expect they will be anxious to do their bit. Pleased to know you seemed about the usual. I see you still have Miss Handby with you. The shortage of Petrol will make a difference, no doubt alos to the sale of new cars. These horrible dark nights are awful aren't they. I expect you like the Bedford St. shop with its modern arrangements but not to be filled up with second hand cars. Just like you to look after the dear Aunt of yours and to take her to your home. You have my best wishes for success in the business affairs. Do you see Mr. Wolveridge sometimes. I expect young Douglas would have to join up, a change for him. There are a lot of evacuees in Midhurst, so far they have not sent us any but they did talk of sending me 4. I said I could not look after them owing to my eyes giving me so much trouble. My outside work is now over, in health I am well and am able to do all my own housework and with my sister being so near, am having a good time. She still keeps her car and drives it so we get out a nice bit. We spend every evening together and are very happy. With kind remembrances and all good wishes, I remain, Faithfully yours, H Austin p.s. I do hope the Grandchild is well, do please tell me."
