  • Scope and Content
“Thank you my dear Emma for writing to me. I am obliged to Mrs Liddell for taking you to see my Sister. When you write again to me you must name a few particulars such as how was she looking, what did she say about me, of course she named all the family and Mary Buss what kind of a young person is she. I have not seen her for eight years, and did she give you a tune on her Piano, her mother used to play well and so did her aunt Mary Buss’ mother”. “I feel glad that my sister has given over house-keeping she will be in a neighbourhood where she is known. Mr Oldfield is a person who has been known in the family ever since his boyish days, so she will find a comfort in talking with him of old times, besides the great pleasure of curtailing her expenses. I wonder she kept house so long, and family so small, but having lived there for many years was loath to leave. I hope she will be as happy as her melancholy situation will admit. But Mary must not think of a Bean, oh no! always petticoat parties”. “I read by your letters that you are spending your time gaily - how very kind of Mrs L to take you about so much & that your health is improving. Now my dear Girls I must bid you both good-bye with love and good wishes to Mr and Mrs Liddell”. “Your affect. Grandmamma”
