I have not had a letter from you since you answered my letter from Elmira and that is over 12 months ago. Did you recieve a letter from Newburgh? I applied for an answer at General Post Office, Buffalo, then from Syracuse. I told Sarah Ann to write to Chicago, I called at the General Post Office but nothing here. I was very much disapointed, I have thought at times that you might have given me up, it would be justice if you had long ago. Once in a while you see a fellow that has not wrote home for 7-8 years, but if he had parents like you he would not be that long. May God bless all of you. I suppose S[arah] A[nn] has plenty of work, I'll swear I never since I heard her play that harmoniam heard one play so well. Please the Lord, Ellen and dear Lizy are doing well at school, they are only starting in life yet. What is Harry doing? A clerk is not much wages in this country, they believe more in paying manuel labour, and none to much at that, though I am doing pretty fair on the Union Pacific Railway. I am 35 miles from a town or village on the one side and 86 on the other. There is only the one house here, that is for the boss and his family and me and two more. We can go out and kill more cottontale rabits and hares than we can eat. It is the wildest place in the Union, I believe. How is Chall and his wife? Tell Chall to tell old Ruff I hope he succeeds in business. John is, I guess, as industrious as ever, and I hope he may prosper. I went down a coal mine the other day belonging to this railroad company for a job, but I could not start without a partner. How is Vin getting on in the Indies?
