Scope and Content
I am at the Sailors' Home. You think it perhaps a long time since I wrote at Duddon. Since then I have been all over Great Britain and Ireland. I went to Cardiff, from there to Plymouth; I left the vessel. There was no chance of getting a ship. I was 9-10 days there, so I went to Glasgow. I could get nothing at Glasgow as shipping is so bad. I only had £3, so I thought I would go to Liverpool while I had money. I had only 7s leaving Glasgow and my passage was 6, so I landed with 1s.
I am at good lodgings and hope to get a ship. I met one of the 41st seargent and I stoped and turned my face to a shop window. My birthday tomorrow - only 18 years
