How is old Vin? Has he deserted yet? I am midling, but a bit of my old cold on the chest. This is a hard place to get a big vessel up, we have to wait for the tides. What good I thought I had in my I think is very near gone out again. The Captain brought me the bills in a temper - "Here, Bill, do you see that you have to do? Pay this bill for your carelessness". "What for"? says I. "For missing the 2 wagons of coal" - you know I had to cook and take the number of the wagon, as well as write the owner of the ship - I did so till I went to see about the dinner. £4 - he says I shall pay every peny, but it would take me till Christmas. I had your box, we made a good pie of the apples for Sunday tea.
