    Letters between Mrs and Mrs S E Swaffield and Urban District Council of Ampthill regarding allocation of evacuees to their home in Ampthill. (i) Handwritten note from the Swaffields to the council reading: "Dear Sirs, re Evacuation. Referring to your circular letter of August - I beg to inform you that I have 9 nephews and nieces and also a sister who are all resident in the Evacuation areas and in the event of an emergency they will be coming down to me. I therefore cannot possibly accomodate other children or grown ups. Further I have my living to get which necessitates my bing away from home all day. Yours faithfully". (ii) Typewritten letter on headed council paper, addressed as 88 Dunstable Street, Ampthill: "Dear Madam, Government Evacuation Scheme, I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 23rd instant, the contents of which are noted. Yours faithfully, R H Orme, clerk.".
