    Basil Swaffield, nephew of Benjamin George Swaffield and son of Henry Richard James Swaffield, was interviewed by 2 students (Robert Pipes and Nicholas Carthy) of Bedford Modern School as part of a project by BMS Local History Group, on 21st January 1972. The interview was undertaken at Basil's home in Bradgate Road, Bedford and mainly covers his school years 1899-1902. He names staff members at the school from a photograph provided by the students. The interview also mentions other aspects of his life such as travelling to school on the train from Ridgmont Station to St John's Station, Bedford, his work as an electrical engineer, serving in the First World War and spending time in America. The interview was recorded on tape and this item is a written transcript of the recording (transcribed February 2002).
