(recital of Assignment of 9 June 1729 between (a) Reverend John Herbert D.D., Prebendary of St Peter, Westminster; (b) John Lord Carteret, Baron of Hawnes and Sir Clement Cottrell, Master of the Ceremonies (reciting Articles of Agreement of 17 October 1704 between (a) Sir Thomas Bromsall of Biggleswade; b) Dame Mary Bromsall (Mary Colinge, widow); (c) Francis Gwyn and Richard Powys, esquires. Marriage of (a) and (b). (a) covenanted with (c) to settle land in Biggleswade to pay (b) annuity of £500 for life. (a) died before any settlement made. Dame Mary Bromsall married Reverend John Herbert; rent charge not paid because land encumbered with mortgages. Chancery Order of 1709 arranging for her repayment. By 1714, £4,527 due to Reverend John Herbert and wife Mary Herbert assigned to Lord Carteret arrears of said annuity for 99 years term. £500 debt to be paid by Lord Carteret for Herbert to Sir Thomas Cross, Baronet. After death of Herbert's wife and further sum of £500 to person appointed by Herbert as executor of will of his niece, Mrs Mary Cullum, deceased, and £3,900 to be paid to Grace, Countess Granville. This confirmed by Chancery Decree in 177 [?1717] after Herbert's death)
