    Mr C B Townsend was born on the 27th July 1898. He had a 45 year career in local government. Beginning as an assistant clerk to Bedford Rural Council in 1916 and finishing in 1961 as clerk to both Bedford Rural and Kempston Urban district councils. He then became a councillor and retired in 1974 as chairman of Bedford Rural District Council. In 1958 he became a Member of the British Empire. Mr Townsend also served as a circuit steward at Kempston East Methodist Church. He was married first to Florence Edith Morris (1896-January 1955) and second to Eileen D Sparrock.

    Kept by Mr Townsend and then by his widow, who died in 2016. Deposited by Mr Townsend's descendant.
