Charles Bernard Wilks began working for Hayward Tyler in about 1920. He started in the draughtsman office and may have studied at Luton Tec. He lodged at 43 Stockwood Crescent. His home was 8 Station Rd, Stanbridge near Leighton Buzzard. He was born in Stoke Newington in 1903. He travelled to South Africa with is wife but not with his son in 1935 and 1937 selling soft drink machines. During the war he was work manager when Hayward Tyler did work for Woolwich Arsenal. After the war he returned to soft drink sales but Hayward Tyler stopped producing this machinery and he was given the job of pump sales. The soft drink was taken on by Goddard of Birmingham. He was reponsible for getting Hayward Tyler the contract for replacing the submersible pump in the Seven Tunnel [?] by the salvage of old pumps (made of gun metal) to pay money for the job of removal. He later left Hayward Tyler and worked for George Clayton of London SSD manufacturer and stainless steel vessel manufacturer followed by manager at Hunters Screen and Comer Leighton Buzzard.
