Between the two images is the following text by Tom Lawson: "This was the Hippodrome built for Mr Yirrell in 1922. Later on it was called the Grand Cinema, first they had Stage Shows and changed about 1924 to a cinema. I can remember going to see Rin-Tin-Tin and my favourite Tom Mix. The Cinema closed in 1932 and remained empty for a long time. Next to the Grand is the Council Offices."
