Scope and Content
Auction catalogue published by Christies's of London in preparation of the sale of "Important Architectural Drawings and Watercolours including The Sir Albert Richardson Collection" on 30th November 1983.
It describes the collection as the property of E.A.S. Houfe Esq. and as being removed from 24 Queen Street, London W.1. A short biography at the beginning of the catalogue summarises Sir Albert's career, his studies at Birbeck College, his partnerships with C.L. Gill and his son-in-law E.A.S. Houfe, his Professorships at London University and the Royal Academy. It lists his memberships of the Royal Fine Arts Commission, the Standing Commission on Museums, the Historic Monuments Commission, and the Central Council of Care of Churches. It lists his consulation and restoration projects of York Minster, Ripon and Glasgow Cathedrals, the Manchester Opera House, the Jockey Club at Newmarket and the Battle of Britain Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
The catalogue is accompanied by a covering letter from Simon Houfe to Andrew Underwood on headed paper from Avenue House, Amphtill dated 25th May 1984.
